The Couponing Stars Have Aligned.

Sometimes I get in a couponing slump and there's no good coupons or sales out. Well yesterday that did not happen.

First it all started with the mail. I got my Target Beauty bags in the mail. One for me-- and one for a friend. These are so great, they have pretty good samples and coupons in them--and they come in this cute little bag.

I get one every time they come out, because they send out so many. So if you see an offer for them-- jump on it. Better yet, tell your friends to 'like' Living on a Nickle page so they can know when to get one too!

Another wonderful freebie I got in the mail was a $10 off Victoria Secret purchase and a free pair of  panties (no purchase required!)

I also got some other obscure samples... too, like Carnation Breakfast drink sample. Yum.

But my favorite part of the couponing day was when I went to do doubles at Albertsons.

I ended up getting Heinz White Vinegar, Paper towels, Kraft salad dressing,-- for FREE! Its a a big deal for me because that $3-5 that I would have spent, now get to stay in my pocket!

If you still want to get a free bottle of Heniz White Vinegar, get this Sundays Newspaper 6/24. In the Red Plum insert there is a coupon for $1 off. For more info go here.

I ended up getting Popcicles for $0.50. A Pyrex glass mesureing cup for $2.89. Butter for $0.89. 3 packs of gum, all for $0.50. ( I did this by doubling $1 coupons, therefore making them $2 off. Like the Pyrex cup was $4.89. You get the idea.) Also some items were on promotion, if you got 10 of participating items you saved $5. Therefore making Barilla Pasta $0.75, instead of $1.25. Pretty good save.

Total price of this was $23.71! That's a savings of about 50%, maybe a little more.
I'm not the math-wiz.

FREE Craisins, free Emergen- C kids, and Procter and Gamble.

Yesterday I got the GREATEST freebie in the mail! A coupon for FREE Craisins by Ocean Spray! I was so excited because I just love those little guys.

How did I get these? Well there is a promotion on Facebook on the Ocean Spray page. Not everyone will win, but its a worth a try. Just go to their page and 'like' them and then go to the 'Make the Swap' icon and enter your email!

Another one of my favorite places to get freebies and coupons is Proctor and Gamble. They have different things that you can choose to get samples. Last time I ordered: I got wipes, a diaper, dish soap sample and some coupons. You can only order every once a quarter.

Easy Share Kodak Camera $45 at Walmart in Rexburg!!

My hubby and I got an amazing deal last night on a camera! Walmart in Rexburg has a handful of cameras on a table right at the front near the check out aisles. I don't know if they all have been snagged. But if not--- $45 for a camera that is usually $99 is a pretty good deal!

Also they have Easy Share Mini's for $35, it has less Mega Pixels--but its a really nice camera. 

Well I hope if you have needed a new camera you can snag this deal!

Hello once again. This week has been pretty good to me in the money saving department. I am pleased to say that the hubby and I did not have one of those--' Why are you spending SO MUCH money??' And when that happens I am a happy woman. Anyway. For those who would like to see how I spend so little-- (still could do better in some areas) I have decided to document my weeks.

 Wedsday:WIC and other groceries

Thank goodness for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) or else our family would be living on boxed foods. So we got some great produce from Albertsons, like the strawberries were $2.50 each. Yum.

So I am proud to say that this week I spent: $43.65 on groceries!

Thursaday: Oil change at Grease Monkey and Deseret Industries finds

If you haven't been to Grease Monkey I highly reccomend them. First of all they are very friendly and honest people, they don't charge for any fluff and they vacum your car along with an oil change. I like them. Plus their wait room has toys, my daughter likes them too!
Also in the ValPac there is a coupon for $5 off a full service oil change. So I spent $38 to get my oil changed-- not a bad deal. Another service that they offer, is to pick up your car, change the oil, then re-deliver your car to you for FREE. So if you are crazy busy, take advantage of that.

 Deserrt Industries finds:
$6.00 Calvin Klien shirt, usually priced $20
$8.00 Waffle Iron (super nice one too!) usually priced $40!

Total price: $14.84 (Happiness not included.)

 The of course we did a cheesy date that consisted of $9 to bowl and went to The Dollar Store. It was really fun, to spend time with my hubby.

Doubles at Albertsons 4/29-5/1!

Have you ever heard the word doublers floating around the air in grocery stores? Have you wondered what the heck that  word meant? Well I am here to answer that question.

So what happens at Albertsons about every two weeks is a mad frenzy called "Twice the Value". They put out these magical coupons in the Sunday newspaper. What these coupons do is make a coupon well... twice its value. For example if you have a coupon for $1 off then the coupon would be doubled to $2! Making a lot of things either free, very cheap, or half off.

Things that I have gotten with "Twice the Value" coupons in the past:

Nivea Lip Care: $1.99

Used $1/1 Nivea coupon

Final price: FREE

Colgate Total Toothpaste: $2.33- $2.50

Used $1/1 Colgate coupon

Final price: $0.33 or $0.50

Hormel Chilli $2.19

Used $1/1

Final Price: $0.19

Now that you know it saves some money you may be asking yourself: How is this done? Well my friend, here's how its done:

1. Get yourself a Sunday newspaper-- you don't need to subscribe, you can just go down to Wal-Mart and get one for $1.50 when Twice the Value coupons come out. Sometimes I get 2 newspapers if the deals are really good, but I recommend getting just one newspaper to get the hang of it.

2. Check out what is on sale at Albertsons with their Weekly Ad... or just let someone else find the deals ( this is what I do). At Fabulessly Frugal they have what is on sale matched up with what is on sale. Wonderful right?!

3. Go to Albertsons and get ready for some savings. I know the first trip is the craziest, and the whole time you are thinking ' How the heck is this going to work?!' Well friend, if you follow all the rules of the doublers (I recommend clicking on this link..because I missed a lot of rules, and they explain it well)-- you'll get some amazing deals.

Recently I have taken up a new obsession. A good one. I have taken up couponing, and I've been pretty successful at it. What is couponing you may ask? Well its when you are up at 2 am and you are matching up coupons with things on sale. Or when you are hording a $1.50 off coupon because you just KNOW that it will be on sale soon. Or you are that lady that says: "Hey theres a coupon for that....". But mostly couponing is about stretching your dollars.


 I don't know about you, but this recession has hit our family hard. It hasn't been easy living on student loans, having a growing baby, and my husband going to school. I knew I had to step in and do something. So-- I started couponing. I thought I would just take it easy and just do a coupon here or there. But as the coupon fate would have it-- my first couponing deal was 96% savings. I got toothpaste for $0.33 and some Friskies cat treats for FREE, for a friend. It was a total of $8.12 saved!


Okay that might not seems like a HUGE deal to the person who lives in a mansion and has toothpaste in gold tubes. But to me that means a lot. I enjoy saving money and getting things for free. It helps me feel in control, when financially sometimes I feel out of control.


Now you know the 'why' of couponing-- but do you know the 'how'? Well its not a simple answer. But this I can tell you that it takes A LOT of time. Its pretty much like a job. To me--a fun job :). If you would like to learn more about couponing or just saving money in general-- FOLLOW ME.
